Shuka & Soil
Hackney Gallery, London 2025
The Debut Exhibition
Shuka & Soil marked my debut exhibition, held on July 11–12, 2025 at Hackney Gallery in London.
The exhibition brought together a series of hand-printed photographs shot on 35mm film across Tanzania. The work explored the nomadic traditions of the Maasai, their deep relationship with the land, and the values of community and self-sufficiency that shape their way of life.
A Tactile Experience
Displayed as large-scale darkroom prints, the show aimed to move away from digital consumption and instead offer a slower, tactile experience, one where visitors could feel the texture and weight of each moment.
The response far exceeded expectations, with a vibrant turnout and thoughtful conversations that made Shuka & Soil a truly memorable beginning to my journey.
From Walls to Pages
The exhibition also featured a short-run photography book, which sold out during the event, extending the story beyond the gallery walls.
